A Creative Expression of Love

You are created in the dynamic image of God. To create is to express our lives as being made in the image of God, for our God is a creative and creating God. To be made in the image of God is to be life-giving, generative, and imaginative.

The first words of the Bible are “In the beginning, God created.” Why did God create and why does God continue to create? Creation’s unique design fundamentally moves toward interconnection and communion. The focal point of the universe, the reason of the universe, is love. Everything God creates is an expression of love. The Scriptures summarize this in three words, “God is love.” It’s essential to understand this because if we are to claim our role in the creating process, we too must be sure that our life is a creative expression of love.

All of us are gifted with creative potential. We’re not merely consumers, we’re creators. We create justice and peace; we create connection and dialogue among people; we create art, music, prose; we create beauty that warms souls; we create education for others; we create love and support for our families and communities. Our gifts, whatever they may be, are given to create a more life-giving world. What do you create?

This is important: create more than you consume.

Finally, on this memorial of Saint Cecilia, patron of music, we are blessed to have musicians offering their talents for our worship together. May the musicians in our communities inspire us to be creative in the ways God has gifted each one of us.
